SEMICONDUCTOR IRL

SemiConductor is a music-making experience with two parts, related but independent of one another— one part is an interactive physical installation, the other a VR experience. The physical installation is an interactive, generative note sequencer based on Conway’s Game of Life, in which the audience can use hand gestures to toggle modules on and off, and initiate the sequence.

The title SemiConductor is a reference to the material found in computer chips, as well as semi-conductor, as in a musical conductor who cedes some control, in this case to the computer.

SemiConductor is my master’s thesis project at School of Visual Arts’ MFA Computer Arts program, and is on view at the SVA Chelsea Gallery from May 26th to June 13th, 2022.
