ALBUM PACKAGING
In a culture where music is commodified and sold for the lowest price possible, how do we entice listeners to value the physical, tangible vessels of music?
I came up with a fictional music act—an alien recording the sounds of space, as it makes its way to Earth. The “album”, then, is like a postcard or care package from the alien, a record of its interstellar travels for the consumer to enjoy. But what does an alien package look like?
I modelled the album design in 3D and had it 3D-printed. The album holds a set of postcards, introducing the act and each track, as well as an SD card, which would hold the music.
Each postcard introduces a track, as well as the supposed geological or celestial feature that accompanies the music. This project formed the basis for my thesis project, Exoplanets.
